| Communications Infrastructure |
The Communications Infrastructure Program is SHARE's focus for telecommunications hardware, software, communications architectures, programming interfaces and interface standards to provide a framework for complete connectivity. The program provides technical direction and network management techniques to assist members in developing effective and efficient networks. It promotes mutual support for SHARE members, enhanced by close-working relationships with IBM and other vendors. The program sessions provide ongoing dialogues among attendees, the program staff, other vendors, and IBM. The program promotes quality work products such as requirement statements, white papers, and session reports for SHARE Proceedings. The Communications Infrastructure Program participates as a member of the SHARE team dealing with telecommunications issues that span SHARE's program boundaries. Areas include: - Sysplex Network Technology
- APPN/HPR /Enterprise Extender architectures
- TCP/IP architectures
- Workstation-to-host connectivity
- Communications Server for Linux on zSeries
- Enterprise Network Design and implementation
- Interconnection of IBM and non-IBM systems
- Network Management
- WEB and eBusiness Solutions
- Storage Area Networking Concepts
The Communications Infrastructure Program works to promote technical excellence by encouraging members to give user experience sessions. The project mascot is the spider as it provides coopen and actively encourages new and existing members to get involved with the program's projects. |

| Enterprise Data Center |
| The Enterprise Data Center Program (EDC) provides a technical program that encompasses the most essential disciplines of Systems Management and other tools and techniques to improve the effectiveness of professionals in SHARE's Member organizations who are accountable for all aspects of Data Center Management. We provide a forum to address the issues of managing existing and emerging technologies in the complex heterogeneous and distributed environments that are required for today's multi-tiered Enterprise business systems. The primary goal of the Enterprise Data Center Program is to provide a comprehensive technical program that has technical training, provides insights into new technology directions, and presents thought provoking discussions on issues that are relevant to the Technical Staff, their Managers and Systems Architects. This program also supports SHARE's mission of 'Industry Influence' by making a coherent and unified presentation of user needs to IBM, its business partners and other vendors. Business data processing environments today span Mainframes to Personal Computers and require a multitude of networking technologies to distribute processing and data across their complexity. This program tries to be as diverse as the products and services that these different platforms depend upon for effectiveness in your enterprise. The Projects included in the Enterprise Data Center Program are: - Data Center Management (DCM)
- Emerging Technolo
- Security and Audit (SEC)
If you are interested in becoming active in any of the Projects in EDC, please contact Harry Williams at hwilliams@share.org. |

| Information Management |
| The Information Management Program (IMGT) focuses on how enterprises organize, retrieve, acquire and maintain information. The Projects in the Information Management Program include the Database Project (DB) which primarily covers DB2 and also includes Oracle and MySQL, the IMS Project (IMSD) and the Storage Project (STOR). If you are interested in working with the Information Management Program or any of its Projects please contact Sylvia Gorman, the Program Manager, at sgorman@niu.edu. |

| Linux & VM |
| The mission of the Linux & VM Program reflects that of SHARE: to provide information and education to SHARE attendees who are users of Linux and VM technologies; to influence the direction of development in the realms of Linux and VM; to provide an environment that fosters the interchange of ideas among the participants. The Linux & VM Program comprises two Projects: - The Linux Project (LINX) focuses on the Linux operating system and its uses on all platforms
- The VM Project (VM) focuses on all things related to the z/VM operating system and related software
The projects also coordinate sessions concerned with Linux running on the mainframe ('under VM'). This last topic is addressed by sessions that focus on concepts including server consolidation, virtual LANs, and the total cost of ownership of (virtual) Linux servers. |

| MVS |
| The MVS Program is concerned with the installation, maintenance, management, integration, and exploitation of z/OS systems and System z hardware. It is comprised of four projects: Enterprise-wide Capacity Planning and Performance Management (EWCP), MVS SCP (MVSE), MVS Storage Management (MVSS), and zNextGen; and three Committees: ISPF, JES2, and JES3. Although the System z platform is a mature technology, it remains vibrant and continues to evolve to meet changing customer requirements. The MVS Program presents technical sessions on a variety of topics to meet the needs of SHARE member installations old and new, large and small. Influencing IBM is also a key responsibility of the MVS Program. Both strategic and tactical issues are addressed, primarily through Requirements, White Papers, and dialog with IBM developers and other representatives. All of the officers within the MVS Program are volunteers, donating their time and energy to make the organization a success. We need YOU to help make SHARE an even better and more valuable experience! If you'd like to contribute, please attend a Sunday working session or Monday opening session for any of the projects listed below. |
